*SQUEEEEEEEEE*
Oh man am I excited.
Can you tell????
Seriously, I feel like such a big-girl blogger now that I’m doing my first official giveaway. The great thing about this giveaway is it’s being co-hosted by my friend Val (SeattleRunnerGirl), who by the way has a smashing new blog layout (read: totally jealous!).
June 2nd is National Running Day and if you’ve been following this blog (you have been following right???) then you know I’ve been running since mid February when I started with the Couch to 5k program (coolrunning.com). When I started running I couldn’t. At least not for more than a block.
Fast forward to today and I’m doing some amazing things with this concept of running. I’ve just completed my first 5k this past weekend and run everyday on the treadmill to improve my speed. Running has helped not only with my weight-loss but also in my ability to believe in myself. It has taught me perseverance and how to push through to finish when all you want to do is fall down and cry like a baby.
I don’t love running just yet. I like it a lot. The faster I get and the more races I do, the more I inch closer to using that “L” word. I want you to experience getting to the “L” stage too.
Now to the fun part!
THE CHALLENGE
There will be several ways to enter this challenge.
Each entry will require a separate comment.
- The first and most important is you pledge to run on June 2nd. I don’t care about distance. I don’t care about time. Just leave me a comment with what you’re going to do.
- Tell me why you love/like/hate running.
- Post a link to this challenge on your blog. Comment with that link.
- Follow me on Twitter HERE. Tweet this challenge and comment that you gave me some twitter love.
So that’s four chances for you to win something pretty awesome! You probably want to know what I’ve put together for the NRD giveaway! Well let me tell you I wish I could enter this one myself cause this stuff is mad cool!
WHOA!!!
- June’s issue of Runners (with some great beginning running articles)
- A kick ass water bottle. (kickass!!)
- A $10 gift card to Starbucks (for after those long runs)
- Tigerbalm (which is DA BOMB…stinky yes, but still da bomb)
- 3 Clif bars (my favorite flavors: Cool mint chocolate, Carrot Cake, Blueberry crisp)
Now here’s the exciting part. Since Val is co-hosting with me, you can go over there and enter as well…Whoa, what kind of crazy talk is this??? Want to know what she’s giving away?
A $10 card to REI (Sahweeeeeeet)
WHAT? No Way! YES WAY!
We girls that run, know how to kick it back to cool like whoa! So what are you waiting for? Come back here June 3rd to find out who the winner is. Until then…
Run!
I AM PLEDGING TO RUN! Probably only a mile or two since it’ll be my taper week before the Half. BUT I AM IN! Maybe I’ll even PR my mile time (come on 8:30).
Obviously I stalk you on twitter. WWOPD.
I love running because it makes me feel alive. Because it makes me enjoy the outdoors. Because it clears my mind. Because it helps me come up with solutions to my problems. Because it makes me feel powerful. Because it affirms that I can do anything I put my mind to. Because it forces me to become disciplined. Because it makes me feel the ground beneath me. Because it inspires me to set new challenges and goals for myself.
Because I can do it.
WHOOT Way cool! This is one hell of a give-a-way. I will pledge to run on the 2nd. I can’t promise far, I can’t promise long, but I will run for NRD! In fact, I already won on a blog give-a-way so if I win this you can give it to the runner up and you can just plug my blog LOL. This stuff is great. I would just feel greedy if I won twice LOL.
I already follow you on twitter, but I will leave some comment love for you there as well.
Right now, I hate running. Mostly because I suck at it. But I push myself to progress because I don’t want to be the one left behind in everyone’s dust. :p
Dude, is it cheating if I enter?? I stalked you on Twitter already and you know I love me some running. (Seriously, who *am* I?!?!)
I’ve already posted about NRD and my intent on running, but I shall declare it here as well (possible swag, ya’ll!).
I, Rinn, will be running on June 2, 2010. Not only because it is a normal C25K day for me, but because I am in a hot, torrid, sexy, sweaty love affair with running.
This 292# body with rock it out for 25 minutes of Joy. I won’t be fast, but I won’t stop. Three months ago, I couldn’t walk a mile and now I run. Every opportunity to prove the past wrong is another opportunity to make my body stronger.
I promise to run on June 2nd! I am NOT a runner but I hope to be one when I grow up! But seriously, I will run/ jog on June 2nd to launch my own C25K journey. It’s been great watching your progress, thanks for the inspiration!
I LOVE FREE STUFF! I will be running fo sho- cliff bars are bomb diggity.
I pledge to run 6 miles on NRD day. Love that it kinda spells nerd.
I love running because it changed my life. It keeps me sane. It gives me confidence. It makes for awesome blogging relationships and my wife thinks it gives me a great butt. Also I like the clothes. And the shoes.
[…] Running Day is June 2nd. Tara is doing a contest so check it out here. (Great Blog Boosting Stuff) Categories : […]
Twittered you up dude. So is this like a drawing or what?
Every comment will have a number starting with the first (1) and then I’ll use a random number generator and whatever number it picks I will count down to the post that coinsides with said number.
June 2 is a short run day for me, so I pledge to run. I like running because is gets me outside and I get to see areas of my city/state that I wouldn’t see any other way.
I also tweeted some love.
And I sent my blog readers to you on my newest blog update.
I am REALLY excited for running day, and a giveaway is just icing on the cake! It works out well that it falls on one of my regular running days anyways 🙂
That day will be week 7 day 2 of couch to 5k for me, which is a 25 minute run. I’m pledging to do the full 25 minute run without stopping for a walking break, and that I’ll run at least 2.5 miles during that time, keeping my average mile time at or under 10 minutes!
I just gave you some Twitter lovin’ for your contest!
I have really grown to LOVE running lately, which is something that I NEVER would have expected even just a couple months ago. I really enjoy getting outside and just feeling my feet against the pavement. Once I got past the first few weeks where I had struggled more, it has really become a passion. If I go more than 1 day without running, I really start to get stir-crazy!
I’ll definitely be running on 6/2. Congrats on doing your first giveaway!
I will run (or try to run). I hear lots about people who were non runners who are choosing to run now. I typically think they are crazy – but here goes.
I am so excited to find your blog… I can’t wait to read through past entries when I have time later! I am in my 5th week of training for a 5k, which is 2 weeks from this Saturday! I have never been a runner but after losing 90+ pounds I needed to prove to myself I could if I wanted to… today was the run 15 minutes walk 1 min, run 15 minutes day. WHEW!!! I did, at 5:30 this morning, and I feel so empowered. Anyways… heck ya I will run on June 2.
I love it after I’m done, because I feel so empowered/healthy.
I hate it while I’m doing it, and sometimes because my knee hurts.
Twitter Love
Just promoted your first giveaway on my blog… very excited for you:

Just gave you a shout out on twitter- woo hoo! Hope your injury wasn’t too serious.
I have been walking every day for 30 minutes since the middle of January. Lately, I have been thinking about starting to jog/walk. This is a great jump start for that process, so June 2nd will be my first day to add the jogging! How nice that I just happened to find a link to your blog!
I will be running 2 miles on June 2. It is part of my training program for my half on the 5th of sept.
I like running because it is an emotional release for me. Especially when I’m not running with someone. I just run and cry sometimes. It’s almost to the big L but not yet, (dont tell Jord I said that)
I’m in!
I love running because its MY time to take care of me.
I will run on June 2nd. I started the C25K program in January and finished it just before my first 5k, the St Paddy’s Day Dash in Seattle! I ran in under 40 minutes and was very proud of myself. Since then I have run in 3 more races (two 5ks and one 8k). I am feeling a little nauseous just thinking about it but I am also running the Rock and Roll half marathon June 26th. =) I definitely do not love running yet. I love how I feel after and how it’s helped me change my body and my mind, but the actually running sucks most of the time (especially those darn hills!) Thanks for the giveaway and thanks for your blog, I’ve enjoyed reading it the last few weeks and watching your progress. Congrats on your success in the Kilted Run!!
I will run on June 2nd. I am not doing C25K, but another program from Runner’s World and I’m finally at Run 2 minutes, Walk 4 minutes and just the other day I thought, “I can’t wait until I get to 3/3!” And then I thought – “Dang! When I first started, I could even walk a mile without feeling worn out!” So, yeah!
On June 2nd I should be doing the first run of the 2nd week of C25K so that is what I commit to running that day!
I used to hate running. I always got shin splints and side aches and I hate bouncing. Now I know that I haven’t been doing the proper stretches, breathing correctly or gotten the right sports bra. Now I love it and mostly for the reason that I CAN run.
Just tweeted!
I’m in! I plan on running a mile on NRD!
T, I am also following you on twitter { tweet, tweet}
Sorry forgot to mention why I like or hate running 😉
I never thought I would want to run, I always said I have no desire to do it. But, the more I am trying to push outside my comfort zone and start running I am seeing how strong I am becoming and I like it!
Hi! I’m pledging to run 25 minutes since that’s where I am in the C25k program!
Awesome giveaway, btw.
I tweeted you too! Or, something. http://twitter.com/100_Pounds/status/14878065645
Here’s my blog post.

Lastly, I’m really starting to like running, though for the longest time it was agony. I had to give it up for a while last august because I weighed close to 300 pounds and my knees and I were not in complete harmony.
It took a couple months, but I joined a gym and slowly collected myself. Now I weigh 251 pounds and I’m falling fast.
I’m thinking my first 5k will be in July.
I am part of the Miami Running Club and Walk Fit Organization, so of course I pledge to run on June 2nd. We have a Morning event scheduled on that day!
I love to run because it makes me feel powerful and in control of my body and my mind. It gives me confidence and strength and energy and sense of balance. Running means a great deal to me.
I blogged about this giveaway and posted a link here:

I will pledge to run on June 2nd. I will try and do 4 miles- I have been getting over a nasty cold- so that’s about my max right now.
I love to run because it gets me out of the house and into nature. I like to be able to breathe the fresh air and to run past different people/places. It gives me fresh perspective on many things.
Okay, so I’m a little late off the mark here, but still in time for NRD!
I hereby declare I will be running on June 2nd. My game plan for this Wednesday will be to run 5K. I’m going to try and run it with my fastest time yet.
Now to answer your question about my relationship with running. I definitely not in a love zone with it. At least not yet. I can’t say I hate though either because I keep going back to it. I’m not exactly sure what that translates to. But so far I’m still running. Can’t be a bad thing.
I just tweeted all about my entry to my wee-following. 😉
I will RUN on June 2nd.. its very hard for me, because I tend to only have time in the morning (around 5AM) and havent been getting very much sleep lately. But I will run
I like how running makes my legs look…so yeah, vanity–that’s why I do it. 🙂 Health benifits are a bonus!
I’ll be running June 2. I just started strength training about 2 month ago and need to increase my aerobic training so June 2 I’ll be starting interval running on the treadmill. Hoping that the added exercise will help the fat go away a little quicker. Thanks for the challenge!

I will be joining in on the running festivities tomorrow. However it is a run/walk day in my regimen so I’ll be doing that.
I enjoy running…at times. I admire runners and I aspire to consider myself one. So now I’m just running til I finally start to love, lol.
You have been tweeted.
